The priority this time was preserving ROSÉ’s voice, so the modulation is gone. There wasn’t enough build up for one anyway, but if you insist on having one, the second chorus might be good.

The form is mostly the same as the vocal source, which helps activate the neural pathways of nostalgia, save for a bar of drum fill after each chorus. You could remove it to improve the flow, but then you’d lose a big chunk of cheesy disco aesthetic.

You can hear her rushing (too much coffee) during the first half of the chorus and I can’t be bothered to fix it - maybe one day.

You have infinite choices when it comes to the build up at 00:58. If you decide to take a different approach to adding instruments, simply consider how thick the texture of the chorus becomes (bass, full drum kit, backup vocals, violins) and pace yourself accordingly.

This is the only valid use of these lyrics. Anything else is a Rum and Coke without the rum. No shade to any producers.

Drinks or Coffee sports a romantic oldies chord progression (ii-I) juxtaposed with a lucid modern melody that rests on upper extensions… and so does Spring Rain. The only difference is a ii-iii instead of a ii-I, but close enough; this actually leads to some gnarly Phrygian action during the second chorus if you were to continue this take.

ROSÉ kind of sounds like Ke$ha at the start, but maybe with proprietary software like Melodyne or Auto-Tune, you could preserve her timbre. Limiting the shift to half a semitone down and up didn’t do anything for transparency, and simply made it harder to play along; what a failure! If anything, you hear how standardized the school of female pop vocals has become.
